KABATAAN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY OPPORTUNITIES
On 30 march 2009, the president issued EO 788- “Promoting a Youth National Service”, initiating a new era of volunteerism and community spirit and requiring agencies to develop relevant programs for the youth.
The Department of Labor and Employment is indeed on the rescuing side of the cracking doom relevant to the above-mentioned statement. This government delegacy with the active coordination of the City Livelihood and Home Industries Development Office (CLHIDO) have been acquiring their means allowing the youth as well as the informal sector to meet their both ends with regards to the current trend of computer literacy. This lead to the eminent birth of the special project of DOLE called KABATAAN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY OPPORTUNITIES (KITO). It is an earning and learning project thru which IT-literate unemployed youth shall be tapped and mobilized to information technology endeavors. Its objectives are to harness IT literacy among the out-of-school youth and other financial disabled youth via free mentoring sessions and to bring the government online programs and services to the people.
The said project will cover close to 50 student mentors and 100 training participants for every 22 days period using the basic module for computer education. The suggested areas for skills training education will include the following: a) MS words application; b) Networking c) Computer hardware servicing. Participating mentor will compensated at maximum of Php 250.0 per hour with minimum teaching hours of 4 hours daily to at least two (2) computer illiterate persons described herein as ‘YOUTH OF THE INFORMAL SECTOR with ages from 18 years old up to 25 years old as the prime target beneficiaries. LGU COUNTER PART will be in the form of material or monetary support as counter parts funding of not least than twenty (20 %) percent of the funding approved by DEPARTMENT OF LABOR AND EMPLOYMENT REGION 7 . Total of Php 1,250,000.00 million has been allocated for these purposes and it will be running for five (5) months of training period as required by and provided by the source of funds. The project will commence on October 26, 2009 and will end up on March 2010.
Recently, DOLE has unleashed its source of funds for the viability of the said project realization making CLHIDO accessible to computer illiterates.
